Privacy and cookies
What this site collects, which cookies it sets, who the data goes to, and how to change your mind. It is a personal consultancy website, so there is not much of it — but what there is, is listed exactly.
Who is responsible
This site is operated by Big Monster Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 08897811. Big Monster Ltd is the data controller.
In practice that means me — Oliver Carding, Manchester, United Kingdom. For anything on this page, email hello@olivercarding.com and it reaches a person, not a ticketing system.
Nothing measuring runs until you allow it
When you first arrive, a consent banner appears and every analytics and advertising tag is switched off. That is not a formality — the site sets Google Consent Mode to denied for analytics, advertising, ad personalisation and ad user data before any tag is able to load. Only what you accept is turned on.
The banner is provided by Cookie Script, which stores your choice in a cookie so it can stop asking. You can reopen it and change or withdraw your consent at any time using the link at the bottom of this page.
The contact form
If you submit the form on the contact page, the details you enter — your name, email address, and whatever else you choose to fill in — are sent to my inbox by email. They are not written to a database, not added to a mailing list, not sold, and not shared with anyone else. They sit in my mail archive until I delete them, and you can ask me to delete them sooner.
The legal basis is legitimate interest: you contacted me about professional services and I need your details to reply.
What is actually running
These are the tags in the Google Tag Manager container on this site. The list is exhaustive — if something is not here, it is not running.
Google Analytics 4
Counts page views and a small number of events — which links and buttons get clicked, and whether the contact form was submitted. Used to work out which pages are worth keeping.
Google Ads conversion tracking
Records a conversion if you arrive from a Google ad and then submit the contact form.
Google Ads conversion linker
Reads the click identifier in the URL when you arrive from a Google ad and stores it so the conversion above can be attributed.
LinkedIn Insight Tag
Measures whether LinkedIn activity brings people here, and allows audience building on LinkedIn.
All four are operated by Google or LinkedIn as processors, which means data leaves the UK and may be processed in the United States under their respective transfer safeguards. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy and LinkedIn’s at linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy.
What this site does not do
- No newsletter, no mailing list, no marketing emails.
- No account, no login, no profile.
- No session recording, heatmaps or scroll tracking.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone.
- No automated decision-making or profiling.
- No advertising cookies at all unless you accept them.
Things this site links to
Booking a call goes to Calendly, the Telegram link goes to Telegram, and article images are served from this domain. Those are third parties with their own policies and what you do there is covered by theirs, not by this page.
How long anything is kept
Google Analytics is set to the shortest retention Google offers. Contact form emails are kept while the conversation is live and for as long as I might reasonably need them afterwards — realistically a couple of years — and deleted on request at any point.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, or ask for a copy. Email hello@olivercarding.com and I will deal with it — realistically within a few days rather than the statutory month. If you are unhappy with how I have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changing your mind
Use the button below to reopen the consent banner and change or withdraw what you have agreed to. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not retroactively delete what was already collected, so email me if you want that too.
